a weekend in Africa

well its saturday and i decided i would break away from the typical thursday night internet mode and see who was around on saturday. No worries i will still stay up late african time thursday to chitchat and blog again.
today i got up and we have breakfast... egg day! my favorite. then we have a 2hour solitude. Basically two hours with God. reading, journaling, praying... whatever works. I have been so happy because a few weeks ago I found a great place to do my quiet times. there is an unfinished banquet hall and I climb up the unfinished fireplace and sit on this brick ledge. Its pretty spacey and I all in all love it. From this space I can see over the wall that surrounds our compound! its great. After that and an intern meeting we had lunch. then we got dropped off in town. after a coffee shop and a trip to the store two others and myself walked home. now i am about to go play an intern group game... yeah!
hope everyone is well

Sami!!!

Great updates! What grist for the mill of our thoughts - how politics, religion, economics, history and a simple game like soccer intermingle to bring tension, and ideally invite dialogue and closeness, rather than fighting and distance. Oh this Africa! How much we owe it as a nation and world, and as individuals... Thanks again for sharing your vivid stories. Rant on! Continue to pray and curse and question! What a better world we can become.

Love from Seattle!!!

P.S. Who has the role of approaching the village's leader to see if you can peacably return to say goodbye? Do you guys have an elder male and some offerings to send? I hope you get to have closure there... Much much love,

Auntie M & Had

Dear Sami,
How quickly the time is going. I am so sorry that they somehow manage to mess up things but I know you did your best and I am sure they will remember you as that funny white lady who was so fun and so very nice and loving. sometimes you wonder how people will remember things but I cannot imagine that they will ever think of you with anything but love.
Our little trip to the east side was fun and I think Kelsy had a good time.
Don't know if you knew your Mom was back in Cal she went Friday and should be home Monday or Tuesday.
Although I do still worry about you, I probably would do that if you were in Seattle I think you have had an experience that the rest of us can only imagine and live through you. You are a special young lady and I love you so much.
Be safe and God be with you,
Gram
PS look forward to IMing with you on Thursday

Just a quick Hi Sami and you know we are missing you.
They called and said the boat is ready so who knows it may even run.
Marilyn and Dean are in town wo maybe I will get in two games of golf next week.
The weather is coming around and suppose to be in the 80's this week.
Do hope things work for you over there and if not honey know you did your best and like I said they will all remember and love you as I do.

Hi Hon,
Just me again thought you might like something to read when you get a chance to be on the computer.
Weather today is beautiful as only it can be at the lake.
I plan to paint today if I do nothing else. Hopefully Bob will get the boat I will keep you posted.
Chico is doing well although he has had some rough times, he now needts to take antibiotics for his dumb teeth. I read in the paper that someone had a Chihuahua that lived 21 years, not sure we will beat that record but time will tell.
I do hope you get to tell the people goodby let me know.
Love you, Gram
